Actor Harry Hamlin recently sat down to discuss a spiritual text that completely transformed his life. He chose the foundational spiritual guidebook A Course in Miracles by Helen Schucman.

The book mattered deeply because it provided him with a clear path toward emotional balance. Hamlin discovered it during a painful period of heartbreak in his late thirties. The text offered him practical tools to navigate personal despair.

A terrifying close call during his youth forever altered his view of reality. That unexpected turning point opened his mind to the deep peace described throughout the book.

Special Preview: A Sensation of Absolute Peace

When Hamlin was 19 years old, he survived a near-fatal head-on car crash. The vehicle was speeding down a two-lane road in Virginia.

Just before the collision occurred, Hamlin experienced a sudden, overwhelming feeling of absolute peace. He realized that everything was completely perfect, despite the impending danger.

Hamlin spent the rest of his life seeking to return to that profound state. Reading A Course in Miracles helped him recreate that quiet inner calm.

Looking Within to Build a Grounded Life

Hamlin grew up in Pasadena, California, in a highly dysfunctional household. His father worked as a rocket scientist, while his mother struggled with severe alcoholism. Early negative experiences with organized religion pushed him to abandon traditional church teachings. He set out on a lifelong personal journey to figure out how to live well.

He studied psychology at Yale and explored philosophy and quantum mechanics over the decades. When his second marriage collapsed suddenly, author Marianne Williamson recommended A Course in Miracles. Working through the 365 daily lessons helped Hamlin abandon his constant need for external validation.

Today, Hamlin approaches life with far less fear and a much deeper capacity for empathy. He continues to pursue clean energy projects and transparent food initiatives. He credits the book with helping him become the best human being he can be.
