Amazon Fire 7 Review
The Amazon Fire 7 is a cheap tablet with a terrific value. It’s only $50, yet it comes with a 7-inch display, 8GB of storage, and a decent camera. Plus, it has access to the Amazon Appstore and Prime Video.
Weighing in at just 11 ounces, the Fire is one of the lightest tablets on the market. It’s also quite thin, measuring 0.4 inches at its thickest point. The front of the tablet is all screen, with thin bezels on the sides and top. The back is made of matte plastic with a soft-touch finish.
There are two versions of the Fire: one with special offers and one without. The version with special offers displays ads on your lock screen and in some apps. You can pay an extra $15 to have these ads removed.
The Fire’s 7-inch display has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. That’s not as high as some other tablets on the market, but it’s still plenty sharp for watching movies and TV shows or browsing the web. The colors are also quite accurate.
Design
When you first lay eyes on the Amazon Fire 7, it’s clear that the design team had one primary goal in mind: to create a low-cost tablet. And they’ve succeeded admirably. The tablet is built around a 7-inch 1024 x 600 LCD display, which is bordered by thick bezels.
The plastic back has a soft-touch finish, and there’s a small Amazon logo in the center. The power button and volume rocker are located on the top edge, while the 3.5mm headphone jack and microUSB port are on the bottom.
Despite its low price, the Amazon Fire is actually a pretty well-built tablet. It feels solid in the hand and doesn’t flex or creak when you apply pressure.
Display
The Amazon Fire 7 tablet has a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600. That’s not the highest resolution you’ll find on a tablet, but it’s still plenty sharp for watching movies and TV shows, reading books, and browsing the web. The display is also bright and vibrant, making it easy to see in all kinds of lighting conditions. One thing to note is that the Fire’s display is very reflective, so you’ll want to make sure you have an anti-glare screen protector if you plan on using it in direct sunlight.
Performance
The Amazon Fire 7 is a great value for the price. It’s a fast tablet with a good sized screen. The battery life is excellent and it has a lot of features for a budget tablet. The only downside is that the camera isn’t very good and there are some bugs in the software. Overall, the Amazon Fire is a great cheap tablet with a terrific value.
Battery Life
The Amazon Fire 7 tablet has a battery life of up to 7 hours, which is pretty good for a budget tablet. We were able to get about 6 hours of use out of it when streaming video over Wi-Fi. The tablet also comes with a micro USB charger, so you can easily charge it from your computer or other USB port.
Storage and Memory
As with most tablets, the Amazon Fire 7 comes with a certain amount of built-in storage and memory. However, what makes the Amazon Fire unique is its expandable storage option. With an SD card, you can easily add more storage to your tablet without having to worry about running out of space.
When it comes to memory, the Amazon Fire 7 comes with 1GB of RAM. This may not seem like a lot, but it’s actually enough for most basic tasks. If you’re looking to do more intensive tasks, you may want to consider upgrading to a higher-end model.
Camera Quality
When it comes to tablet cameras, the Amazon Fire 7 is no slouch. It sports a rear-facing 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and 1080p HD video recording. The front-facing camera is a respectable 2 megapixels.
Image quality is good, especially in well-lit situations. Photos are sharp and vibrant, with accurate color reproduction. Low-light performance is decent, thanks to the LED flash, but don’t expect miracles. Videos look great, with smooth playback and good detail levels.
Overall, the Amazon Fire’s 7 camera system is perfectly adequate for casual snapshot taking and occasional video recording. It’s not going to replace your dedicated point-and-shoot or DSLR camera, but it’ll do in a pinch.
Verdict
The Amazon Fire 7 is an excellent value for the price. It’s a great tablet for anyone on a budget. The performance is good, the screen is bright and clear, and the battery life is impressive. There are some drawbacks, such as the lack of Google Play Store support and the fact that it’s not a powerful tablet, but overall it’s a great value for the price.
